Pyloric stenosis is a condition in which a small intestine narrow causing difficulty in passing food and liquid in the intestine. Whereas, colonic strictures is a condition where narrowing of the large intestine happens causing the difficulty of food and liquid passing. In pyloric stenosis abnormal thickening of the pyloric sphincter muscle causes. The symptoms of pyloric stenosis and colonic strictures are almost the same as mentioned below

  1. Diarrhea
  2. Swelling
  3. Loss of appetite
  4. Vomiting or throwing up
  5. Tiredness
  6. Frequent pain in the abdomen
  7. Weight loss

Causes of Pyloric stenosis

  1. Having a gastric or duodenal ulcer
  2. Having edema, spasm or inflammation may further cause the narrowing of the outlet.
  3. Crohn’s disease may also cause pyloric stenosis.

Causes of colonic strictures

  1. Inflammatory of bowel diseases
  2. Bulging of the intestine wall
  3. Tumors
  4. Radiation
  5. Reduce blood flow

One of the main treatments of Pyloric stenosis and colonic stricture is balloon dilation. In balloon dilation, a small flexible tube having deflated balloon on the tip is inserted into the intestinal area where the area is narrow. Then the balloon is inflated to stretch the area. This procedure is carried out under X-ray guidance for accuracy.
