Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy is usually done on patients who are unable to swallow anything or have problem with their appetite or are unable to take in enough nutrition needed by their body.
PEG or Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy is a tube which is inserted directly into the stomach to provide all the necessary nutrients and medications directly into the stomach, thereby bypassing the mouth and esophagus. During a PEG procedure an endoscope is used to help in the creation of the channel to keep the PEG tube. Proper care and cleaning instructions would be provided to care for the feeding tube and to keep it from getting infected.
